I’ve received the following advice via my local Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator regarding Cold Callers in the Surrey Heath area and being aware of potential fraud. Emphasis is mine . . .
We have recently received a number of reports of rogue tradespeople going door to door within the Surrey Heath area.
Please do not be bullied into having any unnecessary work carried out. If you do need work carrying out please seek advice from a reputable company rather than dealing with strangers calling at your door.
The Buy With Confidence Scheme is an approved register of businesses, which have been thoroughly vetted and approved by Trading Standards to ensure that they operate in a legal, honest and fair way. These traders details are available on the following website: http://www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk/.
Please do not let anyone into your home unless you are expecting them. If you are unsure, ask them to wait outside while you call a friend or neighbour to assist you. If you have elderly or vulnerable members of the community in your road keep an eye out for them and let them know you are willing to help them if they experience such incidents.”
Surrey County Council Trading Standards were kind enough to send me a batch of door stickers like the one above for our recent public meeting and I have a few left over so if you’d like one, just email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I’ll send one to you.
