There is also the following advice from Trading Standards;

This week the National Crime Agency have issued a warning urging the public to review their IT security within the next two weeks. The warning comes as two major computer viruses have been discovered which may cause financial losses to thousands of people in the UK; the first virus may give criminals access to your personal files whilst the second has the ability to lock your computer.

We encourage everyone who uses the Internet to take time to read our top 10 tips to stay safe online:

1. Use strong, memorable passwords
2. Install anti-virus software on new devices
3. Check privacy settings on social media
4. Shop safely online – always ensuring to check online retail sites are secure
5. Download genuine software updates when prompted
6. Do not open or forward emails which you suspect as being spam
7. Do not open attachments or click on links from unknown sources or from sources which look unusual
8. Do not respond to communications from unknown sources
9. Do not make purchases or charity donations in response to spam email or unusual looking social media requests
10. Set up spam filters on your email account
